Ep 4 and 5 audio commentary with Ikuhara and Toi+Chikai VAs

Ishikawa:

Interviewer: What are your thoughts on Reo and Mabu’s relationship?

Ishikawa: In the anime they kept growing apart because of the Otter, but by helping in the reconstruction of the Kappa kingdom, if they become happy then I’ll be content once more.

Miggy:

Miggy says that the Kappa trio were originally planned to be primary schoolers rather than middle schoolers – judging by the concept art it seems to have been around the same time that the location was planned to be the countryside rather than Asakusa.

Miggy: Of the 3 main characters, Toi was the one who I conversed the most with Ikuhara on. Make the look in his eyes bad, even badder, that’s the kind of request I got. Eventually I thickened the line under his eyes and got approval.

Miggy: Keppi has almost the same design as what was at first given to me by Ikuhara. You can say of Kappa ‘they’re disgusting’, but not so of Keppi, so  he has the image of a mascot character.

Miggy: Regarding Reo and Mabu, from the start Ikuhara probably had a firm image of them. Mabu is the serious type, so he’s a Megane. ‘This kind of Megane would be good’ Ikuhara said, sending along photos. Reo’s skin colour and hair style etc., also, Ikuhara showed me drawings and photos to convey the image he had.

Miggy: Originally Sara wasn’t a local idol, but a mysterious bishojo in the same class. I remember Ikuhara saying that ominous black eyes would be good.

Miggy on designing Reo and Mabu: Ikuhara had the idea that they’re buddy cops, they’re a very contrasting pair. While the story still wasn’t decided, he said ‘Reo has a flashy feel to him, Mabu is cool-headed and his expressions don’t change.’

Miggy: I think Ikuhara had inside him an image of Reo especially. His brown skin and his hair style, his sharp teeth, I got these concrete asks from him in designing Reo. I drew Mabu with many different strange hairstyles, but I calmed down to his current hair style and Megane look.
